  • Our Purpose
  • A woman stands behind a podium to speak at the 7th Annual Muslim Mental Health Conference.

The purpose of the Muslim Mental Health Conference is to serve as a platform that actively contributes to the advancement of the professional field of Muslim mental health. Our goal is to empower individuals and professionals to navigate mental health challenges and to promote emotional well-being, spiritual growth, and holistic resilience within the Muslim community and beyond.

  • Our Vision
  • From left to right: Drs. Hamada Altalib, Farha Abbasi, and Rania Awaad stand for a group photo at the 16th Annual Muslim Mental Health Conference.

We envision a space that offers transformative training, community, and partnerships that empower Muslim mental health professionals to excel in their research, practice, and community work/advocacy. We envision a future where excellence (ihsan) in mental health care within the Muslim community is the norm, ultimately enhancing the well-being of individuals and communities worldwide.

  • Our Mission

Our mission is to provide a platform for Muslim mental health education and training programs; foster a strong and inclusive community where individuals find belonging, trust, and support; inspire meaningful partnerships with organizations, experts, and stakeholders; and consistently strive for excellence in all aspects of mental health care. Our mission is to House Education & Training, Foster Community, Inspire Partnerships, and Expect Excellence in Muslim mental health.

    What We Do

    Housing Education & Training

To support our mission, we actively engage in facilitating comprehensive educational opportunities and tailored training programs for Muslim mental health professionals and advocates. This includes curating mental health education by offering specialized education and training for providers, advocates, and community members at various stages of their careers. Our team collaborates closely with stakeholders to ensure that these trainings are evidence-based*, culturally sensitive, and relevant to the needs of our Muslim community.

*Evidence-based is not limited to empirical evidence. We recognize that evidence in our religious, spiritual, and cultural traditions includes the wisdom passed down through generations, the teachings of our faith, the shared experiences of our community members, and the valuable insights derived from our rich and diverse heritages.

    Foster Community

Fostering Community is integral to our mission, encompassing the creation of a nurturing, inclusive environment where the Muslim mental health ummah* feels valued and supported in their professional pursuits. This involves facilitating open and critical dialogue, peer networks, and collaborative initiatives to foster belonging and trust. We are dedicated to nurturing a resilient and compassionate collective that thrives in its pursuit of mental and emotional well-being.

*Ummah refers to the larger Muslim community as a spiritual family

    Inspire Partnerships

Inspiring Partnerships is a fundamental element of our mission, emphasizing the significance of collaborative efforts and shared objectives in addressing the multifaceted challenges of Muslim Mental Health. We recognize that no single organization or entity can fully address the complex mental health needs of our community alone. Therefore, we actively seek out, nurture, and promote partnerships with organizations, healthcare providers, faith leaders, educational institutions, and community activists who share our commitment to enhancing mental well-being.

    Expect Excellence

We are dedicated to upholding the highest standards in every aspect of our work related to Muslim Mental Health. Our commitment to ihsan drives us to stay informed of the latest research and best practices in mental health, fostering a culture of ongoing learning and improvement among our team.

    *Ihsan refers to spiritual excellence
